A perfect moment of reflective tranquility on this much-adored, influential and timeless collaboration between British saxophonist Lol Coxhill and Morgan Fisher. ‘Slow Music’ perfectly encapsulates the title track of the same name; a soft, introspective collage of tape-loops taken from piano, guitar and church bells stretched to the point of being unrecognisable from their original source. Which despite clocking in at over 24 minutes could easily go on for infinity. Elsewhere there’s the short closing track of Coxhill singing merrily over church bells, a version of Handel’s classical ‘Largo’ delicately processed with tape delays to resemble a Mexican Funeral march and plenty of other moments of deep, lush orchestral soundscape. One of the great ‘ambient’ records and big personal favourite. (NM/NM with OBI and insert)
